And we're underway!
Bradley dropping verrrrry deep thus far, causing the U.S. center backs to split out wide as he builds the attack from the back.
Serbia applies some early pressure but Garza does well to shut down the opportunity and earn a goal kick.
Here is Arena's starting lineup: Nick Rimando; Graham Zusi, Steve Birnbaum, Chad Marshall, Greg Garza; Michael Bradley, Jermaine Jones; Alejandro Bedoya, Sacha Kljestan, Darlington Nagbe; Jozy Altidore
Hello and welcome to Goal's live commentary of today's friendly between the U.S. national team and Serbia at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego. This match, of course, marks Bruce Arena's first game in charge since again taking over as U.S. coach.
The national anthems are now underway — should be kicking off momentarily ...
Some breaking news here from ESPN's pregame show: Taylor Twellman says Bruce Arena told him that Clint Dempsey will not be available for March's qualifiers after coming back from an irregular heartbeat. That means today is a particularly important audition for the likes of Kljestan and Feilhaber.
Here are Arena's 12 subs against Serbia: Bingham, Robles; Zimmerman, Evans, Beasley, Villafana; McCarty, Feilhaber, Lletget, Pontius; Morris, Agudelo
Remember this is one of two friendlies Arena will coach before leading the U.S. into a pair of crucial World Cup qualifiers in late March, against Honduras and Panama. Following this match, the U.S. will travel to Chattanooga, Tennessee, for a friendly against Jamaica on Friday.
Lineups came in around 3:30 p.m. ET, so that probably means we're in for a lengthy pregame show following the scheduled 4 p.m. kickoff. (The match typically starts one hour after the lineups are released.)
You'll notice Zusi lined up at right back, as Arena decides to give that experiment an audition in a real match. This also is Nagbe's first international start — more than a year after his debut — and Marshall is getting capped for the first time since 2010 after being completely snubbed by Klinsmann.
This will mark the 100th cap for Altidore, who becomes the second-youngest U.S. player (behind Landon Donovan) to reach that milestone.
