Welcome to the live commentary of the Premier League match between Leicester City and Brighton and Hove Albion.
Leicester have appointed Brendan Rodgers as their new manager, having sacked Claude Puel on Sunday. Mike Stowell and Adam Sadler will take charge of the team this evening, however, as the Foxes look to end a seven-match winless run. An embarrassing 4-1 home defeat to Crystal Palace on Saturday sealed Puel’s fate and leaves Leicester down in 12th.
Brighton have struggled of late, winning one of their last 11 in the Premier League. Chris Hughton’s side looked safe at the end of 2018 but have been sucked into the relegation battle and are just three points outside the bottom three. They have eight points on the road all season and will be short of confidence coming into this match.
LEICESTER CITY (4-3-3): Kasper Schmeichel; Ricardo Pereira, Jonny Evans, Harry Maguire, Ben Chilwell; Youri Tielemans, Wilfred Ndidi, James Maddison; Demarai Gray, Jamie Vardy, Harvey Barnes.
SUBS: Nampalys Mendy, Danny Ward, Kelechi Iheanacho, Wes Morgan, Christian Fuchs, Rachid Ghezzal, Shinji Okazaki.
BRIGHTON AND HOVE ALBION (4-3-3): Mat Ryan; Martin Montoya, Shane Duffy, Lewis Dunk, Gaetan Bong; Pascal Gross, Dale Stephens, Davy Propper; Anthony Knockaert, Glenn Murray, Solly March.
SUBS: Jurgen Locadia, Jose Izquierdo, Bernardo, Dan Burn, Alireza Jahanbakhsh, David Button, Yves Bissouma.
The teams are out and we'll be ready to go shortly...
Rodgers, who is watching from the stands, will be impressed with what he saw from his new team early on. Barnes, Maddison, Tielemans and Gray have all posed a threat, though Vardy had a quiet half. The defence has been shaky at times, but the Foxes will fancy their chances of scoring a second after the break. Hughton will be disappointed his side are trailing but has reason to be positive. The visitors improved in the final 15 minutes of the first half, and Knockaert could easily have equalised. Hughton will consider introducing Locadia early in the second half.
Leicester will be delighted to end their winless streak. The attack was fluent, with Barnes and Maddison impressing, but the defence was vulnerable at times. They face a tough test away to Watford at the weekend in Rodgers’ first match in charge. Missed chances were the story of Brighton’s night as they made it seven Premier League matches without a win. Hughton’s side have struggled on the road all season and desperately need a victory at home to Huddersfield on Saturday.
Thank you for joining our commentary this evening. Until next time, goodbye!
