We're underway at the Emirates Stadium.
Good afternoon and welcome to the live commentary of the Premier League clash between Arsenal and Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal endured a disappointing defeat at the hands of Rennes during the week in the first leg of their Europa League round-of-16 clash. The French side secured a 3-1 triumph as Sokratis Papastathopoulos was dismissed for Unai Emery's men. It has been a disapointing week for the Gunners just eight days removed from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's miss from the penalty spot against Tottenham in the north London derby. The club need a response this afternoon against a resurgent United team.
United recorded one of their best results since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson when they beat Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League at the Parc des Princes. The Red Devils needed a miracle to overturn a two-goal deficit from the first leg, but Romelu Lukaku's brace gave them hope, despite an effort from Juan Bernat. The game was decided on a controversial call on VAR at the death. A penalty decision was given against PSG for Presnel Kimpembe's handball, allowing Marcus Rashford to fire United into the quarter-finals. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revitalised the club since his arrival and another win today would take the Norwegian within touching distance of securing the manager's post permanently.
SUBS: Petr Cech, Mohamed Elneny, Alex Iwobi, Shkodran Mustafi, Denis Suarez, Matteo Guendouzi, Eddie Nketiah.
SUBS: Eric Bailly, Anthony Martial, Andreas Pereira, Marcos Rojo, Sergio Romero, Scott McTominay, Mason Greenwood.
MANCHESTER UNITED (4-4-2): David de Gea; Ashley Young, Chris Smalling, Victor Lindelof, Luke Shaw; Diogo Dalot, Nemanja Matic, Fred, Paul Pogba; Marcus Rashford; Romelu Lukaku.
United have lacked a clinical edge in the final third, which has been surprising. Lukaku and Rashford were both sharp during the week, but both players have spurned opportunities. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be encouraged that his team are creating chances, although there have been nervy moments at the other end of the pitch outside of De Gea's error.
Arsenal are next in action in the return leg of their Europa League clash against Rennes on Thursday, while United are on the road next week against Wolves in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.
Thanks for joining our commentary today. Until next time, goodbye.
