England return to action for the first time since their 2-1 win over Croatia in November, which secured their place in the semi-finals of the Nations League. Gareth Southgate's men take the first step of their journey to qualifying for the next major tournament. The Three Lions are already assured a place in the playoffs for qualifying, although they will want to secure their place with as little drama as possible.
Good evening and welcome to the live commentary of the Euro 2020 qualifying clash between England and Czech Republic at Wembley.
ENGLAND (4-3-3): Jordan Pickford, Kyle Walker, Michael Keane, Harry Maguire, Ben Chilwell; Dele Alli, Eric Dier, Jordan Henderson, Jadon Sancho, Harry Kane, Raheem Sterling.
ENGLAND SUBS: Kieran Trippier, Tom Heaton, Danny Rose, James Tarkowski, Declan Rice, James Ward-Prowse, Ross Barkley, Callum Wilson, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Jack Butland.
Czech Republic finished second in their group in the Nations League B. They won two and lost two of their matches, missing out on the opportunity for promotion. A strike from Patrik Schick fired them to victory over Slovakia last time out, while they recorded a 1-0 win over Poland in their previous outing in a friendly match. They are more than capable of springing an upset this evening.
CZECH REPUBLIC SUBS: Ondrej Kolar, Vladimir Coufal, Jaromir Zrmhal, Borek Dockal, Martin Frydek, Lukas Masopust, Alex Kral, Tomas Koubek, Marek Suchy, Ondrej Kudela, Matej Vydra, Milan Skoda.
CZECH REPUBLIC (4-2-3-1): Jiri Pavlenka; Pavel Kaderabek, Ondrej Celustka, Tomas Kalas, Filip Novak; Tomas Soucek, David Pavelka; Theodor Gebre Selassie, Vladimir Darida, Jakub Jankto; Patrik Schick.
Czech Republic have offered next to nothing in the final third in the first half. Their best opening came from Vladimir Darida, who drilled his strike well wide of the post from distance. The visitors have been too passive, although they will feel aggrieved by the penalty decision, which was a soft one. However, they will need to up the ante in the second period to have a hope of getting anything out of the game.
England are next in action against Montenegro on Monday on the road, while Czech Republic face Brazil at home in a friendly on Tuesday.
Thanks for joining our commentary this evening. Until next time, goodbye.
