Dybala leads a counter-attack on the left but Ekkelenkamp hauls Ronaldo down in the centre-circle. The referee waves play on but with no support, the Argentine turns back and the momentum is lost. When the ball eventually goes out of play, the substitute is booked.
90' +3
S. Khedira enters the game and replaces F. Bernardeschi.
Khedira replaces Bernardeschi for the final minute of the game.
90' +1
Cancelo gets down the right well again and fizzes a dangerous, low ball into the box, but Onana is alert to claim it ahead of the lurking Ronaldo.
90'
Ajax try to force it in as Van de Beek thumps the ball in from the right, but its intended target - Neres - is offside and the flag is raised.
89'
Costa has had Veltman on toast since coming on and makes him look silly as he nutmegs him with an elastico on the left. Quality skill.
83'
M. Pjanić gets yellow.
Pjanic hauls Neres down as the tricky Brazilian gets the better of him and the referee shows him a yellow card.
80'
The pace of the game has slowed somewhat now. Ajax legs must be tiring after all the work they've put in. If they can control the ball and rest in possession, they may be able to muster a final charge in the closing stages.
75'
P. Dybala enters the game and replaces B. Matuidi.
J. Ekkelenkamp enters the game and replaces L. Schöne.
Meanwhile, Matuidi is forced off with that knock and Dybala comes on in a positive change by Allegri.
Schone is replaced by Ekkelenkamp as Ten Hag looks to freshen up his midfield and maintain intensity.
74'
MISS! De Ligt slices well wide of the target from outside the box. Long-range strikes aren't really what he's in the side for.
Minute
Description
73'
Matuidi seemed to have hurt himself in the build-up to that chance and has trudged to the sidelines for treatment. It's unclear if he will be able to continue.
72'
MISS! Ziyech's switch cannons back off Bentancur and he then fires it into Ziyech, who pops it over the top for Van de Beek, but the midfielder can't find the target. The flag is up for offside, too, although it looked very tight.
71'
L. Schöne gets yellow.
Schone slides in late on Bernardeschi and picks up a deserved yellow card, which he accepts without protest. Not a good challenge.
68'
Ajax have got to start taking some of these chances. Neres' individual brilliance has restored parity but they have dominated the game and may feel they need to take a win to Turin in order to stand a good chance of progressing.
66'
MISS! De Jong is the next Ajax player to miss the target, swiping wide from inside the box when he really should have tested Szczesny.
65'
SAVE! Veltman is played in on the right by Ziyech and steers a shot at goal, but it's a tame effort and Szczesny holds on comfortably.
62'
MISS! Ziyech has a pop from outside the area but can't steer it on target. Ajax have had plenty of shots from range, but not enough clear-cut chances.
60'
Douglas Costa enters the game and replaces M. Mandžukić.
Allegri decides he's seen enough and makes his first change. Mandzukic - who has barely touched the ball all night - is replaced by Costa, with Ronaldo taking a more central position.
59'
MISS! Schone tries his luck again from some distance. However, he lifts it harmlessly over the bar and into the stands. Poor effort.
57'
The second half is continuing in much the same vein as the first. Ajax have come out of the blocks flying and Juventus are doing the best they can to stem the flow of attacks when they reach the box.
55'
F. de Jong gets yellow.
Ajax produce a lovely, flowing move as they sweep across the pitch from deep in their half to the left wing, but it breaks down on the edge of the box and De Jong is then booked for hauling down his man to prevent the counter-attack.
46'
David Neres has scored a goal for Ajax!
GOAL!! AJAX ARE LEVEL! Neres produces a stunning solo strike moments after kick-off, drifting in from the left and curling a shot into the top-right corner past a sprawling Szczesny! It's 1-1!
We're back underway!
45' +1
HALF-TIME: AJAX 0-1 JUVENTUS
45'
Cristiano Ronaldo has scored a goal for Juventus! Assist by João Cancelo.
Cancelo's delivery was inch-perfect and Ronaldo produced a fantastic, powerful header to give his side the lead right on the stroke of half-time! There may not even be time to take kick-off!
GOAL!! JUVENTUS TAKE THE LEAD! They've been growing back into the game and who else could it be but Ronaldo! Cancelo dinks a lovely ball into the box and Ronaldo ghosts in unmarked before diving to thump a header in that Onana gets a hand to, but can't keep out! It's 1-0 to Juventus!
43'
SAVE! Pjanic gets on the end of a cross into the box but his header is too central and Onana saves.
42'
MISS! Schone takes the free-kick and tries to blast it to the goalkeeper's side, but it's far too high.
41'
N. Tagliafico gets yellow.
Neres is fouled by Bentancur, but with the referee taking his time over his decision, Tagliafico dives in and makes a cynical challenge to prevent a counter-attack. He's then booked, meaning he misses the next game, even though the decision goes Ajax's way. That's a big miss for the Eredivisie outfit.
39'
Juventus have grown back into proceedings, but Ajax are still threatening going forward. They may feel concerned that they haven't scored during this period of superiority, however.
36'
CHANCE! A cracking ball from the right has just a little too much pace on it and narrowly evades the outstretched leg of the onrushing Tagliafico at the back post!
35'
MISS! Ajax get into neat pockets of space in between the lines of midfield and defence and work it to Ziyech, but he drags his effort horribly wide to the right of goal from outside the box.
34'
It's better from Juventus as they press high themselves and force from the Ajax backline. Bonucci's challenge on Tadic is clumsy, but the hosts were struggling to play their way out.
32'
MISS! Juventus work a slick attack as Matuidi scampers down the left before finding Ronaldo, who backheels into Bentancur, but the midfielder's left-footed effort is high, wide and not so handsome.
27'
Neres switches to the right again and shows quick feet to skip away from his marker and fizz the ball into the danger zone, but it's shovelled behind for a corner under pressure.
24'
The game has settled down a little as there's a lull in goalmouth action. The hosts still dominating the ball, though.
22'
Tagliafico and Mandzukic trade fouls as both sies display their battling qualities. This is a physical test as well as a mental one for the favourites.
20'
Juventus are really struggling to cope the Ajax press and even though the hosts are conceding a couple of fouls for overzealous pressing, they're squeezing so aggressively that the Bianconeri aren't able to put their stamp on proceedings. Ronaldo has hardly had a touch.
16'
Juventus are growing into the game now, particularly down their left flank. Alex Sandro gets forward and holds off Veltman, who gives a clumsy foul away on the left-back.
14'
TACKLE! Bernardeschi looks to have gotten well clear down the left as Ajax are caught out, but De Ligt matches him stride for stride and produces an excellent sliding challenge inside the box to send the ball behind for a corner. Outstanding defending.
12'
SAVE! Juventus finally get their foot on the ball and play out, but a sloppy pass in midfield allows Ajax to pounce and they work a half-chance for Ziyech, whose curled effort is too central and Szczesny holds well.
10'
The hosts are dominant at the moment. They're stroking it around and playing in neat triangles. Juventus are biding their time and keeping numbers back to deny them space.
8'
Juventus just can't get out. Even when Ajax lose the ball, they box their opponents in so well and force mistakes to claim possession back. There's been a great deal of interplay in and around the Juve box that just hasn't quite come off as yet.
4'
Ajax are pressing high and showing real bravery in their commitment to winning the ball back. Juventus aren't going to have it all their own way tonight.
1'
Juventus get the game underway!
Hello and welcome to our LIVE coverage of the Champions League quarter-final first leg clash between Ajax and Juventus at the Johan Cruijff ArenA in Amsterdam.
The line-ups have been announced and we'll start with the home side.
Juventus substitutes: Douglas Costa, Sami Khedira, Moise Kean, Mattia De Sciglio, Leonardo Spinazzola, Paulo Dybala, Mattia Perin
Juventus XI (4-3-3): Wojciech Szczesny; Joao Cancelo, Leonardo Bonucci, Daniele Rugani, Alex Sandro; Rodrigo Bentancur, Miralem Pjanic, Blaise Matuidi; Federico Bernardeschi, Mario Mandzukic, Cristiano Ronaldo
Ajax XI (4-2-3-1): Andre Onana; Joel Veltman, Mathijs de Ligt, Daley Blind, Nicolas Tagliafico; Lasse Schone, Frenkie de Jong; Hakim Ziyech, Donny van de Beek, David Neres; Dusan Tadic
Both sides are top of their domestic leagues - Ajax have usurped PSV to reach the summit of the Eredivisie on goal-difference after winning seven of their last eight league games (L1), including a 3-1 victory over their title rivals, while Juventus are 20 points clear at the top of Serie A, having suffered just one league defeat all season (W27 D3).
Juventus are on a mission to avenge their Champions League disappointments of recent seasons. They have reached the final twice in the last four years, but were beaten both times. In signing Ronaldo, however, they have brought in a player who has claimed the prestigious trophy in four of the last five campaigns.
Despite having the lead, Allegri may well have concerns over how poorly his side performed, particularly in the first half an hour. Juventus appear to be attempting to play through Ajax's press, but the results have not been good so far. Ajax boss Erik ten Hag, on the other hand, will surely be scratching his head and wondering how on earth his side aren't winning. They need to be more clinical and Ronaldo's run wasn't tracked for his goal, a mistake the hosts can ill-afford to repeat.
Ajax host Excelsior as they look to maintain their position as Eredivisie leaders, while Juventus visit SPAL before the second leg next week.
Thank you for joining our coverage, we hope you enjoyed the game. Until next time, goodbye!
