We're underway in this Champions League clash.
Club Brugge are playing for a spot in the Europa League tonight, holding a one-point advantage over Galatasaray at the bottom of Group A. The Belgian outfit held Real Madrid to a point in their clash at the Bernabeu, with Zinedine Zidane's men requiring a second-half comeback to rescue the draw. A similar performance tonight may be good enough to send Philippe Clement's men through to the competition.
Good evening and welcome to the live commentary of the Champions League clash between Club Brugge and Real Madrid at Jan Breydelstadion.
Real Madrid cannot finish higher than second place in Group A after failing to beat Paris Saint-Germain in their clash last time out, allowing the French side to mount a late comeback to snatch a point. As a result, Zidane can afford to play some of his squad players tonight to hand them valuable minutes and experience in the Champions League. The Frenchman will be determined to leave with the three points to take momentum into the next phase of the Champions League.
CLUB BRUGGE (3-1-4-2): Simon Mignolet; Odilon Kossounou, Brandon Mechele, Simon Deli; Eder Balanta; Thibault Vlietinck, Ruud Vormer, Hans Vanaken, Eduard Sobol; Percy Tau, Emmanuel Dennis.
CLUB BRUGGE SUBS: David Okereke, Siebe Schrijvers, Federico Ricca, Dion Cools, Ethan Horvath, Mats Rits, Charles de Ketelaere.
REAL MADRID (4-3-3): Alphonse Areola; Alvaro Odriozola, Raphael Varane, Eder Militao, Ferland Mendy; Luka Modric, Casemiro, Isco; Rodrygo, Luka Jovic, Vinicius Junior.
REAL MADRID SUBS: Daniel Carvajal, Nacho Fernandez, Karim Benzema, Gareth Bale, Thibaut Courtois, Federico Valverde, Brahim Diaz.
Dennis and Percy Tau have been active in the final third for the home side. Their pace troubled Los Blancos in the reverse fixture and there have been a couple of moments when they've had space. If they keep on plugging away there may be a clear-cut opening waiting for them in the second period. Brugge's place in the Europa League looks to be secure given that Galatasaray are 2-0 down to Paris Saint-Germain in their contest.
Madrid are next in action against Valencia on the road in LaLiga on Sunday, while Brugge take on Mechelen at home on the same day in the Belgian First Division.
Thanks for joining our commentary this evening. Until next time, goodbye.
