Peluso is shown a yellow card late in the match for cutting across Icardi and taking his opponent's legs.
LATE SAVE! This would have been incredibly cruel on Sassuolo had Martinez's back-post header crept past Consigli. As it is, the visiting keeper is in the right place to gather the ball with both hands from what is surely the final act of the match.
90'
Hugely disappointing for Inter, as Brozovic decides against shooting from the free-kick. Instead, he tries to play a simple pass into the path of Icardi, only to overhit the ball straight out of play.
88'
BOATENG COMES CLOSE! So nearly a dramatic late winner for Sassuolo. Boga, who has done very well since coming on, takes the ball past two players and floats a cross towards the penalty spot, but it has a bit too much on it for Boateng to make any contact.
87'
The game has become stop-start as the referee all too freely blows his whistle for minor challenges. There are now just three more minutes to go here.
86'
Less than five minutes to play and Sassuolo are dropping deeper and deeper. Inter are knocking on the door and are looking far more threatening with Martinez pushing up alongside Icardi, who has cut a frustrated figure for large parts of the game.
82'
Borja Valero enters the game and replaces M. Vecino.
Valero takes over from Vecino for the final eight minutes, with Inter in desperate need of a goal.
81'
L. Martínez enters the game and replaces M. Politano.
Icardi slips before he can convert the cross following some good play from Politano. Had Inter's regulars been in attendance today the striker likely would have been jeered for that!
A double change for Inter, with Martinez being replaced by Politano in the frontline in the first of the alterations.
80'
Sassuolo are sitting a little deeper now but they are still offering a threat in the Inter half of the field. Boga cannot find a way through but Locatelli does get a shot away, which is blocked in front of goal.
78'
Politano whips in a corner from the right and Consigli slaps it clear when he perhaps could have caught it. Not that it matters - Inter fail to get the ball back into the middle as Sassuolo hold firm.
Minute
Description
76'
F. Magnanelli enters the game and replaces S. Sensi.
Sensi is unable to shake off the injury problem and is replaced by Magnanelli. That is all three changes made by De Zerbi.
73'
M. Bourabia enters the game and replaces A. Duncan.
Duncan is off and Bourabia on in his place. Sassuolo have 17 minutes to see through and you get the impression that they will take a point now.
72'
ICARDI OFF TARGET! D'Ambrosio swings in the ball from out wide and Icardi gets on the end of it, but he is left with too much to do and is unable to find the target from 10 yards. That all came about as a result of Perisic drifting into a central position to pick up the ball.
70'
Not a great deal happening at the moment. Neither side has created much of anything either side of Boateng's close-range header, which Handanovic did brilliantly to keep out. Which manager will blink next? Spalletti and De Zerbi able to make two more changes...
68'
Inter are living dangerously all of a sudden as Lirola is given time and space to swing the ball into the box. It is aimed too close to Handanovic, though, and the goalkeeper gathers at the second attempt.
66'
Good goalkeeping from Consigli to take the ball out of the air, relieving some of the growing pressure on his side. Boga, only on the field for five minutes, skips away from his man but Sassuolo are getting nowhere fast.
64'
Inter are looking more composed on the ball, yet it is Sassuolo who have had the only two shots on target in this second half. The hosts win another corner, which is cleared away at the front post - poor delivery!
62'
J. Boga enters the game and replaces F. Đuričić.
Sassuolo bring on Boga for Duricic to provide some fresh legs in midfield.
60'
R. Nainggolan enters the game and replaces João Mário.
Nainggolan is brought on in place of Joao Mario with around half an hour to play. Sassuolo boss Roberto De Zerbi has yet to turn to his bench.
59'
Not quite sure how this one remains goalless. Both teams have had a couple of big chances to open the scoring, but a mixture of poor finishing and good goalkeeping means that it is still 0-0 with just under an hour played in Milan.
55'
Djuricic is fortunate to avoid being cautioned for halting the run of D'Ambrosio down the right - he knew exactly what he was doing. Inter once again fail to make the most of the free-kick, however, with D'Ambrosio being flagged for offside once getting his head to the ball.
51'
Rogério gets yellow.
Rogerio pulls back on Politano and is shown a yellow card by the referee. A good turn from Politano left the Sassuolo full-back with little choice.
50'
M. Brozović gets yellow.
Brozovic becomes the second player to enter the referee's notebook for lunging in on Rogerio to halt the Sassuolo attack. The Inter midfielder may have got a slight touch to the ball, though...
49'
EARLY SAVE FOR HANDANOVIC! Boateng gets his head to Duncan's cross but it is a routine stop for Handanovic. The second half, much like the first half, has started in a pretty frenetic manner.
48'
Joao Mario and Perisic exchange passes and the latter plays his team-mate into some space. The cross is delivered into a dangerous area but nobody in an Inter top can get a telling touch.
46'
Inter get us back underway at San Siro! There is nothing to separate the sides with half the match played.
45' +1
HALF-TIME: INTER 0-0 SASSUOLO
45'
Locatelli gets his header wrong, sending it behind for a corner. Inter once again go short, but on this occasion the ball does not make it as far as the box.
44'
Time is running out for both sides to find a first-half breakthrough. It has been a classic half of two halves - Sassuolo started on top but Inter have got better as things have gone on and look the more likely to score in the remaining seconds of the half.
42'
Perisic gets his cross all wrong but very nearly makes amends. Brozovic picks up the loose ball and threads it through for his countryman, but Perisic's pull-back is captured by Consigli.
40'
CONSIGLI KEEPS OUT VECINO! After managing to stay onside for a change, Vecino turns the ball on goal from 10 yards. Consigli, who is becoming progressively busier in this first half, does well to get down low and capture the ball at the second attempt.
38'
Sassuolo are holding on now as we enter the final stages of the first half. Inter have edged possession in the opening 38 minutes, seeing 55 per cent of the ball, but in terms of clear-cut chances the visitors have had the better of things.
36'
The flow of the game has completely changed over the last seven or eight minutes. Inter are now dominating possession and creating some good opportunities, the best of which fell to Politano. Their latest move ends prematurely as Vecino is flagged for offside.
34'
Politano goes to the ground inside the box and the 11,000 schoolchildren in attendance scream for a penalty. The winger did not exactly appeal for it, though, with replays showing that he simply lost his footing.
32'
S. Sensi gets yellow.
Sensi clatters into Brozovic and is shown the first yellow card of the match.
31'
Magani seemingly trips himself up but the referee Luca Pairetto gives a foul against Vecino. A strange one!
30'
Berardi's free-kick is a disappointing one, sending the ball high over Handanovic's crossbar.
29'
Nearly half an hour played and Sassuolo have had the better of things, testing Handanovic twice so far compared to no saves for Consigli. Inter's best opening fell to Vecino, who could not keep his headed effort on target.
27'
D'Ambrosio picks out the run of Perisic with a diagonal pass over the top, but the Croatia winger can only hammer the ball wide on the half-volley. The offside flag was up, however, so it would not have counted even if he had found the net.
25'
GREAT PLAY FROM SASSUOLO! The visitors are playing some superb stuff. It is one-touch football to work this latest shooting chance, which Berardi cannot make the most of, blasting the ball over the bar from a fair way out. Inter cannot get close to their opponents.
23'
Skriniar barges right into Boateng to concede a free-kick. Inter look a little rattled here against a side they usually tend to struggle against.
21'
ANOTHER HANDANOVIC SAVE! Sassuolo are starting to dominate the midfield battle. Possession is turned over and the visitors charge forward, with this latest attack ending with Boateng's 20-yard curler being pushed to safety by Handanovic.
19'
GOOD SASSUOLO PRESSURE! Boateng is spotted in the box but cannot get his headed effort on target. Berardi then gets a shot away, which is aimed too close to Handanovic. Sassuolo are starting to turn the screw.
14'
Sassuolo are a little too keen to play the ball out from the back and are so nearly caught out by Inter. The quality in the final third of the field has been lacking from both sides, unfortunately, though there is a long way to go yet.
12'
Both teams are continuing to take it in turns to attack. The tempo of the play is very high but there have been no clear-cut chances at either end so far. Djuricic looks to mount a counter, but he is brought down.
10'
Inter have been very wasteful when on the ball, Brozovic the latest to nearly be caught out. It has been an evenly-matched start to the contest, with both teams looking to close down the ball when out of possession.
8'
As expected, the atmosphere at San Siro is very strange. Around 11,000 schoolchildren are in attendance and, in fairness to them, they are making plenty of noise!
6'
SHOT FROM RANGE! The injury stoppage has not helped with the flow of the match. Berardi, the man who was down for a couple of minutes, drives the ball goalwards from 20 yards but is nowhere near the target.
2'
Vecino does well down the right to create some space for the cross, but it is aimed far too close to Consigli - a simple catch in the end.
1'
Sassuolo get us up and running at San Siro, aiming to make it five wins in a row against Inter.
Hello and welcome to our live coverage of the Serie A meeting between Inter and Sassuolo at San Siro.
Inter have won three of their last four matches in the Italian top flight, each by a 1-0 scoreline, to remain third in the table. Luciano Spalletti’s side are well out of the title picture, with leaders Juventus 14 points clear, but second-place Napoli are only five points better off and can certainly be caught. As for Sassuolo, they have lost back-to-back league matches and have just one win in their last eight, seeing them drop down into the bottom half in 12th place.
INTER XI (4-3-3): Samir Handanovic; Danilo D'Ambrosio, Stefan de Vrij, Milan Skriniar, Kwadwo Asamoah; Matias Vecino, Marcelo Brozovic, Joao Mario; Matteo Politano, Mauro Icardi (c), Ivan Perisic
SASSUOLO XI (4-3-3): Andrea Consigli; Pol Lirola, Giangiacomo Magnani, Rogerio, Federico Peluso; Alfred Duncan, Manuel Locatelli, Stefano Sensi; Domenico Berardi (c), Kevin-Prince Boateng, Filip Djuricic
Inter subs: Roberto Gagliardini, Antonio Candreva, Dalbert, Miranda, Borja Valero, Sime Vrsaljko, Daniele Padelli, Radja Nainggolan, Lautaro Martinez, Andrea Ranocchia
The two teams are now out on the field at San Siro and we are moments away from kick-off. Just like Inter's Coppa Italia tie against Bennevento in midweek, this match is effectively being played behind closed doors as punishment for alleged racism from Inter fans towards Napoli's Kalidou Koulibaly. Around 11,000 tickets have been given out to local schoolchildren, so there will be a unique atmosphere.
A lively first half ends goalless at San Siro. Locatelli and Vecino both failed to make the most of presentable opportunities in the opening quarter of the match, while Berardi came close on a couple of occasions and Consigli produced a fingertip save to deny Politano.
Spalletti will be pleased with the way his side took back control of the first half after making a pretty slow start to proceedings. Sassuolo played some lovely football in the opening half an hour, but from pretty much that point on the home side were in control, and Inter still have another 45 minutes to find a way through.
Thanks for joining our coverage today. Until next time, goodbye!
The silver lining for Inter, who travel to Torino for their next league outing in a little over a week's time, is that they have ended their four-match losing run against Sassuolo. This has to be considered a good point for De Zerbi and his men, meanwhile, as they switch focus to the visit of Cagliari next weekend.
